About Hardesty
Trust, earned one roof at a time.
Thirty-five years of Central Virginia weather, and the same name on the truck the whole way through.
Since 1990
Tested. Trusted. Local.
Those three words aren't a slogan we bought; they're the order things happened in. We got tested by three and a half decades of Virginia storms, hail seasons, and August sun. We got trusted by the homeowners and businesses who watched the work hold up. And we stayed local, because a warranty from a company that leaves town isn't worth the paper.
Today Hardesty Roofing installs and repairs residential and commercial roofs across Central Virginia, along with the windows, skylights, siding, and gutters that finish the envelope. The crews are ours, the standard is ours, and the phone number hasn't changed.
Credentials
Claims are cheap. These aren't.
Every credential below is verifiable, third-party, and re-earned, none of them are purchased badges.
GAF Master Elite®
Held by fewer than 2% of roofing contractors in North America. It requires proper licensing, adequate insurance, a proven reputation, and ongoing training, audited by GAF, not by us.
GAF President's Club
GAF's award recognizing Master Elite contractors for excellence in residential roofing, earned, not applied for.
Class A · Licensed & Insured
Virginia's highest contractor license classification, with full insurance coverage, the license class required for work of unlimited contract value.
Voted #1 by Richmond Magazine
Richmond Magazine readers have voted Hardesty the region's #1 roofer multiple years running. Neighbors did that, not a marketing budget.
BBB Member
A Better Business Bureau member, accountable in public, where anyone can check the record.
5-Year Workmanship Warranty
Our own labor warranty, in writing, on top of manufacturer material coverage, with lifetime warranties available on qualifying GAF systems.
How we work
No pressure. No surprises. No shortcuts.
We don't do high-pressure sales, and we don't do mystery pricing. You get a real inspection, an honest recommendation, even when the honest answer is “not yet”, and a written scope before a single shingle moves. It's how you stay in business for 35 years in a town where everyone knows everyone.
The credentials
What they mean, not just what they are.
Every roofing company lists credentials. Fewer explain what they mean, which makes them hard to compare. Here is the plain version.
- Class A contractor
Virginia issues contractor licenses in three classes by permitted project size. Class A is the highest, with no monetary limit. It requires demonstrated experience, financial standing and a qualified individual on the license.
- GAF Master Elite
A manufacturer certification held by a small percentage of roofing contractors nationally. It requires licensing, insurance and a track record, and it is what allows a contractor to offer GAF’s strongest system warranties.
- Insured
Liability and workers compensation. Worth asking any contractor to evidence, because if a crew member is hurt on an uninsured job the exposure can land on the homeowner.
How we work
Our own crews, and why that matters.
A lot of roofing is subcontracted. A company sells the job and a crew they have no long term relationship with installs it, which is why the quality of a roof from the same company can vary so much from one street to the next. Our crews are ours, which is the only way a workmanship warranty means anything.
It also changes what happens when something goes wrong. If a roof we installed has a problem in year three, there is no argument about who is responsible, because the people who installed it work here. That is most of what a five year labor warranty is actually buying you.
The other thing we try to do consistently is tell people when they do not need the work. A roofer who only ever recommends replacement is easy to spot after the fact and expensive to have hired. If the honest answer is that your roof has years left, or that a repair will do, that is the answer you will get.
Common questions
About Hardesty.
How long have you been in business?
Since 1990, under the same name, working from Central Virginia the entire time.
Are you a franchise?
No. One shop in Midlothian, our own crews, and no national parent company setting the standard from somewhere else.
Do you use subcontractors?
Our crews are our own. That is what makes the workmanship warranty meaningful, because there is no third party to point at if something needs fixing.
What area do you cover?
Roughly ninety minutes from the Midlothian shop, which reaches from Charlottesville and Fredericksburg down through Richmond, Petersburg and Emporia, and east to Williamsburg, Newport News and Hampton.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Class A contractor, which is Virginia’s highest license classification, and insured for liability and workers compensation.
What is GAF Master Elite?
A manufacturer certification held by a small share of roofing contractors nationally. It requires licensing, insurance and a demonstrated track record, and it is a prerequisite for offering GAF’s strongest system warranties.
Do you do commercial as well as residential?
Both, and commercial is a substantial part of the business rather than an afterthought. We install and repair all five low slope membrane systems.
What happens if there is a problem after the job is finished?
You call us and we come back. The workmanship warranty runs five years, and because the crews are ours there is nobody else to refer you to.
